Bayer facing major legal issues due to RoundUp

As many of you know, I work in the field of nutrition and health. This latest verdict is HUGE in alerting me and you to the dangers in our environment and food due to the spraying and use of pesticides/herbicides mostly Roundup — 300 million tons each year.. Believe me that roundup and glyphosate are at the root of many health problems. The courts have been active in bringing the manufacturer to be accountable and this latest verdict is a WIN for us.

A California federal jury found Tuesday that Monsanto‘s Roundup weedkiller was likely a substantial factor in causing a man’s cancer, delivering a major blow to the Bayer AG unit in the first such federal bellwether trial and setting the stage for a second phase to determine damages.

In case you haven’t seen recent commercials….the lawyers are lining up to file suits against Bayer for being a cause of various cancers. Remember the Tobacco fiasco!

The skinny on Sweeteners

Many people have replaced the sugar in their diet with highly-refined artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, or saccharin (a.k.a. NutraSweet, Splenda, and Sweet-n-Low).

Artificial sweeteners are found in many processed and so-called “sugar-free” foods. These sweeteners should be avoided because they are toxic to the brain, affect healthy gut bacteria, and may even cause weight gain by deregulating metabolism.

Be careful of claims that artificial sweeteners are “natural” when combined with healthier alternatives like stevia or monk fruit. These sweeteners are primarily chemical sweeteners with a touch of stevia or monk fruit.

Frustrated and Sad – Osteoarthritis

I am feeling frustrated, sad and sorry . I attended a seminar at a major hospital yesterday on the topic of arthritis and joint replacement. A top doc reported on the Top Ten – top 10 – things a person can do for this disease that affects over 27 million with osteoarthritis alone. Having done my masters thesis on nutrition and joint replacement, I was shocked that not 1 of the top ten — not 1 out of the top 10 — mentioned nutrition, food, or diet. Not 1. Nutrition is a key – Top 10 – factor in helping to control pain and recovery from surgery. I know, as I have tested it on myself after the 2 joint replacements I experienced in the past 2 years.

NO NO foods to give your pet

We often want to slip a little goodie to our beloved pets BUT DON’T give any of these – they could be deadly:

Onions or garlic
Coffee, tea, caffeine
Grapes or raisins
Macadamia Nuts
Peaches, Plums, Persimmon
Yeast dough before baking
Human medicine unless instructed by vet – it can be deadly
Baking soda, baking powder
Nutmeg and caution on other spices

Too much could be harmful -VIT D

Getting too much vitamin D is associated with negative effects. With continued use of enormous doses of vitamin D, toxic effects can occur, which has been reported with the use of a protein supplement containing vitamin D.  My suggestion is to try to get 30-60 minutes of sun a day and if you live in the northern states and/or get little to no sunshine due to work etc during the day, do take a vitamin D supplement but be careful of  the amount.  I recommend no more than 5,000 IUs daily.

Pets with Cancer

As you know, I lost my beloved Bailey to cancer last year and have been on the proverbial mission to find out more.  I am working in the field of pet nutrition.  A series just started which is currently free that I recommend watching.  Part 2 is very good.  Understand though that not everything is as it appears.  But, this is a good intro to pet food. Try this link and if it doesn’t work – let me know.

Cheerios – maybe not so cheery

How many times have you seen kids with a bag of cheerios.  But did you know it contains Acrylamide.

What is Acrylamide?

Cheerios Nutrition: Ingredients labelAcrylamide is a carcinogen that is formed when foods containing carbohydrates and sugar are cooked at high temperatures or for an extended period of time. This would include; frying, baking, boiling (process for canned products), and microwaving. The process of making plastic bags and containers also produce significant amounts of acrylamide making them unsafe for packaging food products.

So, the process of toasting the otherwise healthy wholegrain oats produces high levels of the toxic acrylamide. Storing them in a plastic bag inside the box adds even more toxicity. Cancers linked to acrylamide poisoning include: breast, prostate, ovarian, testicular, and thyroid.

So many of my friends say they have been bitten by a tick.  Deer ticks are the most dangerous for Lyme disease.  Here is what they look like:

#1 killer of women

Heart Attach/Heart Disease is the #1 killer – what to look for

Women are more likely than men to have back or neck pain, heartburn, and shortness of breath. They tend to have stomach trouble, including an upset stomach, feeling queasy, and throwing up. They may also feel very tired, light-headed, or dizzy. A couple of weeks before a heart attack, a woman might have flu-like symptoms and sleep problems.

About 435,000 women have heart attacks in the U.S. each year. Symptoms can be so mild they’re often dismissed as something minor.
